Please join us for our next chapter gathering. Guest speaker Larry Bothe will be sharing key elements of the upcoming MOSAC from the FAA. I’ve already seen direct and positive impacts in areas like Basic Med and max gross weight increases for Sonex aircraft. What other gems are out there with this pending rule change from the FAA? Gathering start time is 6:30pm in our chapter Youth Center.
An important factor of our Zenith CH650B build is to also create aircraft build opportunities for our chapter adult members. The way we’ve structured the build is that as the students work on flight control elements and wings, in parallel the adults are building the fuselage structure.
This past Friday we hosted the Brown County public school 3rd grade class. They have been working on a STEM Aviation module. We reviewed the 4 Forces of Flight, Lift, Parts of an Airplane, and Flight Controls. We then looked over the Zenith C650 build, pulled a few clecos, and weighed some of the parts to see how light they were. We looked at a Sonex and a Nanchang CJ-6 and their differences. Back inside we completed the AeroEducate Blended Wing Body module and had a fight contest in the hangar. Afterwards we visited the Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum and toured See More
Busy night tonight with our youth. The finishing touches are made to the Zenith flaps with the addition of piano hinges. Another group of students start working on a functional replica of the 1901 Wright Bros wind tunnel. Lucy, inspired with the Zenith build, wants to do a science fair project of different wing designs vs lift. You just gotta have a wind tunnel. And our 2023 Ray Scholar (Noah) takes our 2024 Ray Scholar (Christopher) through the C150’s equipment list.
